It’s an extra step for safety I like to use, for whatever reason in the past I lost a fully modded game to steam’s update so I caution everyone not to take chances on this. And yea I was wondering what triggered it that time and not other times so thanks for clarifying that. From what I understand, GTA IV is a game that can reach fairly quickly DX9 API limits. Night shadows and detail / distance draw are probably the 3 biggest offenders, these options drastically increase the amount of calls made to the DX9 API and so your GPU has to wait. DXVK intercepts all DX9 calls and so the DX9 API limit shouldn’t be an issue anymore, the 3 previous options can now be fully maxed out while keeping a decent framerate / frametime (you still need a decent GPU). Essentially DXVK will show massive gains only if you max out all graphics settings, if you scale down detail / distance draw and turn off night shadows DX9 might actually be a bit better.

I wish they ported some of good scripthook mods (like IV Death Music) to SDK as it’s more modern (as I understand it), plus it would remove the rain bug… Uhm, are you using the Ultra-low latency mode in the NVIDIA control panel to cap your framerate? That option doesn’t work with DX12 and Vulkan, that’s probably why it isn’t capping to 116 FPS.

Have tried searching for fix, but no dice. I’ve tried both with the files in the zip extracted to the Grand Theft Auto IV folder, outside of the GTAIV folder with game contents, as well as inside of it. I’ll upload it as a hotfix version, so you don’t have to download the whole 1,58GB again. To remain in the VRR window with DXVK I would suggest to put a custom FPS value in the FusionFix .ini file. If you want to truly restore the game to it’s original glory, I heavily recommend Various Fixes and Console Visuals. They both have their installations adapted for the Fusion Overloader so just copy and paste them to your game’s directory. //Finish the installation and note that there will be a new folder called ‘update’ in your game folder. I dunno why, but for whatever reason this one does not seem to work for me, but it’s also my first time trying to effectively mod GTA IV, so maybe I’m being dumb here.

Not sure if it’s worth making another widescreen fix. Put him on the “last minute fixes” department. Fixes that are bold are supported in 1.0, Steam, and Rockstar Games Launcher versions.

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City ’01

The Downgrader itself works fine, no errors, no anything, and it’s updated to the most recent version (Hotfix 1), but whenever I press Play, the game just keeps loading infinitely. Fresh install of the game, run once to main menu. Antivirus exclusion is set, Framework is installed. Scripts won’t work until scripthook is updated and even then scripts will probably have to be partially remade.

(make sure to right click the game on steam and select the ”only update the game when I launch it” option so you at least have some chicken road game google play control over this. I would consider these mods exceptional and they are confirmed to work well with fusion overloader, along with restored pedestrians and restored tree positions as well. As for DXVK, as you said your mileage may vary. I find it not necessary if you are on a strong gpu+strong cpu combo but if your CPU is weak it will probably yield some performance advantages as dxvk mainly relies on your GPU. DXVK is a bit wonky in my opinion with vsync but It is also configurable, of course.

I guess i’ll have to release a fix for a fix, to make it work with widescreen fix? Also, I noticed you didn’t include an ini and this also fixes the rain reflections, I was wondering if you could add the ini to enable rain reflections even when its not raining too like the original fix. Sorry, I’m a bit clueless about this issue, does this mean you can’t jump seamlessly from EFLC to IV and viceversa? It’s not a big deal if that’s the only problem. I do however have EFLC on disc, since I bought a retail CE copy back in 2020 sealed, but I do not have access to a DVD drive currently, unfortunately…

A huge thanks for the Fusion team for making all this possible, their mod is the backbone now of any stable modern GTA IV installation. I think Fusion Fix already includes a fixed Rancher (done in a better way or something) and the Sultan Trunk Fix has messed up vehicle camera. You can use SET_CAR_PROOF(Vehicle car, bool, bool, bool, bool, bool) to make vehicle explosion proof. There’s already the “Auto-repair” option which will fix the car if it gets damaged.

I’ll try to take a look into zpatch to check if I can make the episodes work when I have more time. Saved games and options after downgrade are located in Appdata/local… ZPatch can also allow you to launch the game DIRECTLY from the exe through the use of Skip launcher so if it means much to you, you can try it out…

Black smartphone issue

If you don’t mind, I’d like to say something; wouldn’t it be much better if updates and stuff about the mod were posted on here rather than in Discord? The latter often seems to make the most of us feel like a fish out of the water, so you might want to consider that. I haven’t added it as I wanted this plugin only to patch stuff, not add any new features.

It can get quite confusing, as a lot of these other guides don’t really teach you why you should install certain mods one way and other mods another way. Other guides typically just show you how to install mods, without actually explaining how they work. So sure, by the end of most guides, you will have a modded game. If the file is flagged as a virus, windows will try to stop executing it, throwing you this error. You can try adding an exclusion in Windows Defender for your GTAIV folder. But in the past I saw  some big performance benefits of DXVK on my previous config so yes DXVK is absolutely great.

On D3D9, i’ve seen some huge spikes at random times ranging from 20-45%. Not to mention most of the stutters being eliminated. It’s just the lower stress on the hardware making it a thousand times more worth it at least for me… I don’t think that Steam and RGL actually delete added files. They can only update the files you replace, so it’s safe as is. The game runs perfectly fine before the downgrade (whatever version is on steam right now).
